TACOMA, Wash. -- Four years ago, the Mead Panthers lost in the 4A State championship game. But on Saturday, Jade Redmon and the senior class had their redemption as they beat Arlington, 58-42, to take the 4A state title.
The Panthers took a 12-7 lead after the first quarter and closed out the 2nd quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 13-point lead at the half.
The second half was all Panthers, as sophomore Sue Winger sparked Mead with a pair of 3-pointers, part of her team-high 16 points.
It was another balanced effort from Mead, as Ashlyn Lewey scored in double-figures with 14. Delany Junkermier had 9 points and Jade Redmon had nine points with six assists.
Mead last won a state title in girls basketball back in 1996. The 2012-2013 Panthers finished the season with just one loss.
