    The Central Valley High School girls basketball team capped off an historic season Saturday morning, defeating Hamilton Heights (TN) 66-61 in the GEICO High School Nationals championship game. Gatorade state player of the year, Lexie Hull led the way 26 points, 13 of which came in the 4th quarter. The Bears end the season 29-0 as Washington state champions and national champions.>>

Grandview, Wash. - I bet you can't guess the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Unless you said girls wrestling; and a trio of wrestlers from Grandview High School made an impact at the state tournament this year.

"Coming in with just three girls and placing fourth at a state tournament is, I guess you would say pretty impressive," said Marizza Birrueta, 100-lb Washington state champion.

You bet it is! Just ask their coach.

"We've got three of the hardest working girls in the state, not just girls , hardest working wrestlers in the state," said Jeff Sevigny, Grandview head wrestling coach.

But it hasn't always been that way.

"The girls that would turn out in the past would be turning out just to be controversial," said Sevigny.

But these girls are different.

"They've earned the respect of the guys. They work hard they do everything the guys do, and the guys respect that," said Sevigny.

And that respect comes from watching these girls in practice.

"They're very competitive, when they wrestle each other in practice they go extremely hard, probably harder than they go in their matches," said Sevigny.

"We'll practice, we'll wrestle live a lot at practice and we'll just like go all out at each other like we hate each other," said Desiree Zavala, 124-lb Washington state champion.

Guess what these girls think about wrestling being cut from the Olympics. "It's like they're crushing my dreams, you know," said Birrueta.

And in ten years who knows where the sport could be?
