UPDATE: 'Pipe Bomb' Turns Out To Be 'Pipe Bong'

Posted: Updated:

Spokane Police Department Press Release:

Spokane Police and the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) responded to a report of a pipe bomb in north Spokane this morning.  After cordoning off the area and investigating the scene, EDU technicians rendered the device safe and determined that it was not a bomb but rather a drug paraphernalia device associated with marijuana.  SPD encourages citizens to report all suspicious devices so that officers/bomb technicians can investigate and ensure the safety of citizens.

At 10:07am, a citizen called to report what looked like a "pipe bomb" in the alley behind 112 E. Wellesley.  EDU technicians responded to the scene and cordoned off the area.  After evaluating the device, EDU technicians rendered the device safe and determined that the object was not a pipe bomb but rather a piece of drug paraphernalia associated with marijuana.

Spokane Police appreciate tips and remind citizens that if they "see something, say something" and officers/technicians will investigate the scene and ensure that citizens are safe.
