YAKIMA, Wash.-- The city of Yakima is working to improve its image with a clean up event this weekend.
They'll man a site where people can drop off unwanted items from their yard.
It's one of eight clean up events happening across the year.
They're one of the results of a citizen survey last year.
Survey responses showed an expectation that the city should work on the image of Yakima and make the area look better.
The clean up events are not the only thing the city is doing to improve Yakima's appearance.
They've also gotten tougher on responding to graffiti and are hoping to launch a program to encourage downtown businesses to improve landscaping.
The first community clean up this weekend is focusing on areas west of 40th Avenue. The drop off site will be at 75th Avenue and Mead tomorrow from 8 am to one pm.
The city has seven other clean ups happening around Yakima throughout the year. You can find more on them here.
