Jitterz Java Coffee Shop Burglary Caught On Camera

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Police Officers are trying to figure out who burglarized the Jitterz Java coffee stand on Northwest Boulevard early Monday morning.

Two people broke into the coffee shop around 2 a.m. Monday and the owner is hoping surveillance video will help police catch the burglars.

"My first employee came in at 4 o'clock this morning and that's when she called me to come down and let me know that we were burglarized," said Jitterz Java Owner Christine Lazenby.

Instead of breaking into the main building where baristas make the coffee, the two burglars broke into the storage building right next door.

The surveillance video captured a man using a hammer to shatter the glass door to the storage building. The man then reaches through the shattered glass, turns the door handle, and enters the building.

However, he is not alone, the video also shows a woman follow him inside wearing a backpack. Shortly after entering the building, the man then disconnects the security camera.

"Cameras are really expensive, so a lot of places don't have them," Lazenby said. "But it's a necessity here, for me I believe anyway."

Although the two thieves were wearing masks in the video, this would not be the first time a burglar ended up in jail after being caught on Lazenby's surveillance.

"I was actually burglarized in my main building, but we had just put in new cameras two weeks prior to that, so we actually caught the individual and he's actually in prison," Lazenby said.

Lazenby says it will cost about $500 to replace the shattered door. However, because no money is kept on the property, she does not think the thieves got away with anything except possibly a gallon of milk.

If you have any information on this robbery or recognize anyone in the surveillance footage, call crime check at 509-456-2233.
