Coeur D'Alene Has Seen It's First Fire Hydrant Theft

Posted: Updated:

COEUR D'ALENE, Id- The City of Coeur D'Alene has been the victim of an interesting theft. Six used fire hydrants were recently taken from the city's Water Department.

The most interesting part about this is that while the fire hydrants don't have high value, they do have a fairly high weight. Each weighs roughly 200 lbs, and the thief managed to make off with six.

The fire hydrants were in an area that isn't viewed much because all that resides there is scrap materials.

There has been no apparent signs of forced entry which makes this even stranger because police believe that they may have been stolen during business hours.

Since the hydrants were going to scrap, officials believe they may have been stolen to re-sell or use as a lawn decoration.

City Officials are working with the police department at an attempt to secure the grounds which are already surrounded by a gated fence.
