Tri-Cities ready to finally see Peters start at quarterback for Fever

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The name Kasey Peters might not be familiar to the Tri-Cities. Last year he only threw 11 passes for the Fever as he sat and learned behind Houston Lillard.

"He did a great job making sure I understood the game. He wasn't just out there trying to make himself better. He was trying to get me better. He was talking me through his reads, what he saw and stuff like that. So Houston was big, beneficial for me to sit under him absolutely," Peters said.

This year the fever re-signed Peters knowing he had the inside track to become the starter.

"Him being a back-up for a year, he knew the system coming in. I think it gave him a little bit of an advantage over Dante (Warren), and he's kind of taken it and run with it. Very cerebral and understands what we're trying to do," head coach Adam Shackleford said.

Peters also know a lot more will be asked of him this year.

"Everything is different, being the guy and not being the guy. There's a huge difference. Everything you do, preparing wise, everything. I sit down to eat I want to make sure I'm putting the right things in my body. I want to make sure I'm taking care of my body, all that stuff. Watching extra film, getting in the playbook, doing everything I can to get better," Peters said.

The Fever look to return to the United Bowl with Peters throwing the ball.
