Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Department Press Release:

On Friday, March 15, 2013 at approximately 6:30 am a homeowner was awakened by the sound of his snowmobile starting up in his front yard.  The homeowner quickly armed himself with a firearm and confronted the suspect, who was trying to steal the homeowners snowmobile.  While holding the suspect at gunpoint the homeowner called 911 and sheriff deputies responded to the victim's home on Herbs Drive, about 3 miles north of Newport.

Prior to the deputies arrival, the suspect fled on foot, and is believed to have gotten into a white, 90's, Dodge pick-up, which was parked near the victim's residence and was last seen driving towards Newport.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his 20's, about 5'8" with a stocky build.  If anyone has information on this crime, they are asked to call the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office at 509-447-3151 ext. 2.
