Idaho Receives No. 16 seed, Draws Connecticut in NCAA Tournament

Idaho played itself into the NCAA tournament with a WAC tournament championship, but will get a tough matchup in the Big Dance, as it received a No. 16 seed. The Vandals will have to travel to Storrs, Conn., to face UConn, in what will be a home game for the Huskies. The game will tip at 10:30 PT.

"We're playing our best basketball of the year right now," said Idaho coach Jon Newlee in a press release. "We went down to Las Vegas on a mission and our team really came together during that week and won three really close games with all the pressure on. The way we performed down there was something we've been talking about all year. We finished playing our best basketball and that's what you want to do."

If Idaho (17-15, 11-7 WAC) is to advance in the tournament, it will have to make history by beating the 1-seed Huskies. Connecticut (29-4, 14-2 Big East) is the AP No. 3 team and is no stranger to the NCAA tournament. The Huskies have only lost to Notre Dame (three times) and Baylor (one time).

Connecticut is led by Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis' 17.4 points per game. Three other players average double figures for the Huskies.

"I've seen them play on TV, that's for sure," Newlee said. "I know they're big and physical and athletic, and they can shoot. Obviously we're going to have to bring our best effort out there to Storrs on Saturday."

If the Vandals were to pull the upset, they would face the winner of Vanderbilt-St. Joseph's.

This is just the second appearance in the NCAA tournament for the Vandals, who lost, 74-51, to USC in the first round of the 1985 tournament.
