Jury Convicts Tenn. Mother Of Killing Newborn Twins

Posted: Updated:

GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) - A jury has convicted a 26-year-old Tennessee woman of felony murder and other counts in the smothering deaths of her newborn twins. She was immediately sentenced to life in prison.

The jury found Lindsey Lowe of suburban Nashville guilty of felony murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse after deliberating for two hours Tuesday.

Jurors had heard testimony that Lowe told police she smothered her twin boys after giving birth in the bathroom of her parent's home Sept. 12, 2011.

Lowe was then engaged, but the twins were conceived during an affair with another man. The prosecution argued the babies would interfere with her plans to marry.

The defense said Lowe wanted to block out the idea of being pregnant, saying she didn't even know initially she was giving birth.
