YAKIMA, Wash.--The Yakima County Development Association is working to secure funding for a series of projects that could spur economic development.
Some of the projects have gotten wide public attention like the Cascade Mill Project, and the revitalization of North First Street. But other projects include buying and fixing up the Northern Pacific Train Depot on North Front Street to use for entertainment purposes.
"To make the tourist experience in Yakima a better experience as well as bringing the community back downtown," said Joan Davenport, the City's Strategic Project Manager.
The city is looking to buy the building from Burlington Northern Santa Fe, but the terms haven't been set yet. The city also requested a $750,000 federal grant for structural repairs and modernization.
