One Third of Washington Public Schools get Low Performing Grades

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Washington Policy Center has released the Washington State Public School Achievement Index ranking public schools across the state.

Statewide, the rankings show more than one third of Washington state's public schools are low performing. This year, using the idea endorsed by leaders of both political parties, the Policy Center also published letter grades according to the schools' performances. The index rates and grades schools as (A) Exemplary, (B) Very Good, (C) Good, (D) Fair or (F) Struggling.

Within the Yakima, East Valley, West Valley, Sunnyside, Selah, Kennewick, Richland and Pasco School Districts, letter grades range from A to F.

In the Yakima School District, the highest grade went to Eisenhower High School as Exemplary (A). The worst, Yakima Satellite Alternative as Struggling (F).

In the East Valley School District, the highest grade went to Moxee Elementary as Exemplary (A). The worst, East Valley Central as Fair (D).

In the West Valley School District, the highest grade went to Wide Hollow Elementary as Exemplary (A). The worst, Apple Valley Elementary as Struggling (F).

In the Sunnyside School District, the highest grade went to Pioneer Elementary as Very Good (B). The worst, Sunnyside High School as Fair (D).

In the Selah School District, the highest grade went to Selah High School as Good (C). The worst, Selah Academy as Struggling (F).

In the Kennewick School District, the highest grades went to Sunset View Elementary and Phoenix High School as Exemplary (A). The worst, Ahmistad Elementary as Struggling (F).

In the Richland School District, the highest grades went to Lewis and Clark Elementary and White Bluffs Elementary as Exemplary (A). The worst, Rivers Edge High School as Struggling (F).

In the Pasco School District, the highest grade went to Ruth Livingston Elementary as Very Good (B). The worst, New Horizons High School as Struggling (F).
