Stories From Salt Lake: Jack And Dan’s Meet Salt Lake City’s Jack And Dan

By Alex Rozier, KHQ Reporter/Anchor

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Sarah and Joe Sherwood say their kids were named in honor of family members. They also admit the obvious. The Sherwood's met at Gonzaga one morning over breakfast at the Ultimate Bagel. Joe Sherwood doesn't even like to eat breakfast. Well, as it turns out, the woman working is the woman he would later marry and now they live in Salt Lake City with their two boys; Jack and Dan.

If you know Gonzaga, you now know why this is funny. Jack and Dan's is the most popular campus bar and has been for many years.

"Jack and Dan are both family names, but having ties to Gonzaga it kind of felt right when we found out we were having our second son," Sarah Sherwood said. "It just kind of ties us back to Gonzaga and it ties us back to our memories I think."

"The double meaning meant a lot so we can have the family connection and the connection where we actually met," Joe Sherwood said.

"It's a place we really loved," Sarah Sherwood said. "We loved Gonzaga and we loved Spokane so all in all it's a good thing."

The Sherwood's say they love the Inland Northwest so much they try to get back every single year to hang out with old friends. When the old friends meet the boys they have a question.

"They're going, ‘Now wait a second. Wait a minute. Did you guys?" Sarah Sherwood said. "We say, ‘Kind of, they're family names, but ... yes we did!"

Jack is one-and-a-half and Dan is three-and-a-half. They say they are trying to get tickets to Gonzaga's game tomorrow, but if not they plan on going to a local restaurant to cheer on the team. Gonzaga and Wichita State play Saturday in Salt Lake City at 5:40 pacific time.
