Spokane Police Respond To Two Burglaries In Progress; Suspect Quickly Apprehended

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Spokane Police responded to two separate incidents of residential burglaries in progress in the area of Longfellow/Pittsburg (1200 block of E. Longfellow) and Walton/Pittsburg (3900 block of N. Pittsburgh) around 3:30 Sunday morning.

The suspect eluded officers at the Longfellow address, but Officers Boothe, Specht and Overhoff apprehended 31-year-old Christian A. Wendt at a home south of 3900 N. Pittsburg. Wendt was carrying goods from both burglaries and additional items from an unknown victim.

Wendt attempted to fight with officers but was quickly taken into custody. These incidents occurred in or around areas SPD Crime Analysts identified as potential hotspots for burglary activity and SPD had already allocated officers to patrol this area.

Because of this resource allocation officers were able to quickly respond to the call and apprehend the suspect.

SPOKANE, Wash. - "He told me to pull over, and my jaw just dropped," a Spokane woman, who says a fake police officer tried to pull her over, doesn't want to be named. In fear, this could happen again. "It really scared me and kind of threw me off that night. I don't even want to drive by myself anymore," she said. She tells me that she was driving around North Spokane at night on her way home from work.
