Yelm Shooting Called 'Suicide By Cop'

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - The Pierce County prosecutor says a sheriff's deputy was justified in fatally shooting a man who pointed a handgun at him.

Prosecutor Mark Lindquist called the death of 50-year-old Wayne Edward Craddock of Yelm last October "another sad case of suicide by cop."

Deputy Martin Zurfluh had pulled over Craddock on Highway 702 near Yelm for driving with a suspended license. Craddock was agitated and got out of his truck with the gun and refused to calm down.

When he raised his gun, the deputy fired several times hitting Craddock in the torso and head.

The prosecutor's office said Tuesday the autopsy showed Craddock was intoxicated at the time of his death.
