Inaugural Blog: Shock Pregame Info

After a crazy first-plus month on the job, I've finally got the blog going.

I've got plenty of good excuses why this hasn't happened earlier -- some good, some not so much -- but let's skip those and jump right in.

My goal for this blog is to have a place to disseminate information about the going-ons in Spokane area sports. I'll add a touch of national sports here and there as I try to look for local ties. It will also be a place for extraneous quotes, notes and observations that don't make it into stories.

If you want to follow along on Twitter, I'm at @jlieb24. This is also a good reminder that our Twitter (@SWXRightNow) and Facebook (SWX Right Now) at SWX are being updated on the regular and are a great source for Spokane sports information.

I'll be at the Shock home opener tonight when they host Arizona. So expect plenty from the Spokane Arena later. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on SWX TV.

Tonight's game should be a good one, as it matches arguably the two best teams in the league. Both teams hold 3-0 records (Jacksonville is the only other undefeated team in the AFL) and are the two highest scoring teams in the league. Arizona averages 72 points per game, while the shock come in at 69.7.

One area to keep an eye on for the Shock is the passing game. Erik Meyer has been lights out, throwing for 928 yards, 24 touchdowns and perhaps most importantly, zero interceptions. Arizona's defense leads the league with 10 interceptions. It appears something will have to give.

Here is the game preview from the Shock's official team site. As well as a preview from the Spokesman.

Check in later for complete postgame coverage.

In other news, the Shock game tonight starts a healthy dose of sports being broadcast on SWX this month. Here are the other games on SWX.

- Gonzaga baseball vs. St. Mary's on April 14.

- Gonzaga baseball vs. Washington State on April 16.

- Vandal Silver & Gold Game on April 19.

- Gonzaga baseball vs. Washington on April 25.

- Red & White Game on April 27.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Johnathan Williams will return to Gonzaga for his senior season after initially submitting his name into the NBA Draft without hiring an agent.   By not signing with an agent, Williams retained his collegiate eligibility to keep the option to return to Gonzaga in 2017-18. A key player in last season’s run to the national championship game.
