FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Pacific pitchers limited Whitworth to a pair of runs as the Boxers swept the visiting Pirates in a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Pacific won the opener 2-1 and took the nightcap 8-1 to improve to 11-18 overall and 8-9 in the NWC.   Whitworth fell to 10-19-1, 5-12 and has dropped 11 of its last 12 contests.  The teams will complete the series with a single game on Sunday.

Game 1 – Pacific 2, Whitworth 1

Rob Dittrick went the distance on the mound for the Boxers, allowing 10 hits, to outduel Dan Scheibe and improve to 3-3.  Scheibe ended up with no decision after he allowed only four hits and one run over seven innings.

The game remained scoreless until Jeremy Druffel singled home Gerhard Muelheims with the game's first run in the top of the sixth inning, giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead.  Muelheims had led off the inning with a double.

Pacific tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on Nick Tasaka's RBI single.  Whitworth looked like it might get the lead back in the top of the eighth when Josh Davis singled with Druffel on second base.  But Druffel was gunned down at the plate to keep the game tied.
Jason Renner relieved Scheibe in the eighth inning and got the first two outs of the inning.  But Anson Arakaki reached on an error and then scored on Charlie Gaff's triple for what would prove the winning run.

Renner fell to 1-3 this season despite giving up only a single unearned run.  Muelheims finished 3-4 at the plate for the Pirates.

Game 2 – Pacific 8, Whitworth 1

Nick Morton threw seven shutout innings while Donnie Bradley and Tasaka each went 3-5, drove in two runs and scored two runs, to lead the Boxers to a sweep of the doubleheader.
Gaff had an RBI single in the first inning and Bradley added an RBI single in the second inning as Pacific grabbed an early 3-0 lead.  But then Whitworth pitcher Carson Blumenthal and did not allow another run until the seventh inning.

But that three-run rally in the seventh put the game away.  Tasaka had an RBI double to get the fourth run across the plate.  Gaff added his second RBI of the game later in the inning.  Bradley's RBI triple in the eighth started another two-run Pacific rally.

Whitworth got on the board in the top of the ninth when Blake Thoren scored on a wild pitch.
Morton allowed six hits and no walks over seven innings.  He struck out four and improved to 2-1. Kyle Treadway finished up on the mound with two innings of relief for Pacific.
Blumenthal dropped to 3-4 after he gave up six runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 6.2 innings.  Taylor Isadore tossed the final 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

Erik Nikssarian and Muelheims each had a pair of hits for the Bucs.
