SPOKANE, Wash. – Trailing 5-2, Gonzaga University baseball exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to sweep Saint Mary's College 10-6 Sunday at the Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field. The Bulldogs are winners of eight consecutive games which include two West Coast Conference series sweeps.

The Zags improve its record to 23-10-1 and a WCC-best 11-4. The Gaels stumble to 11-25 overall and 2-7 WCC.

Caleb Wood, Cory LeBrun, Steven Halcomb, Marco Gonzales and Alex Bonczyk all had an RBI base hit that chased Gael starter Ryan Brockett in the fifth. The Gonzaga offense put together five of the team's 14 hits to take back the lead.

The Bulldogs also added insurance runs in the sixth and eighth inning. LeBrun singled in Mitchell Gunsolus for his fifth RBI of the series and Gonzales drove home Wood for his second RBI of the game.

Derek Callahan got the start for the Bulldogs but left with a no decision after 3.2 innings of work. Reliever Taylor Jones (1-0) picked up his first collegiate victory after hurling 1.1 innings. Kenny Smith, who also pitched in Friday's game, earned his first save of the season.

Andrew Sopko also made his sixth appearance on the mound for GU with 0.2 innings of work.

The Zags had success against all three Gael pitchers. Brockett was responsible for six runs, Katrick Keane for three and Tanner Kichler for one.

Four Bulldogs had a multi-hit game highlighted by Halcomb (4-for-5) and Gonzales (3-for-4). Halcomb hit a team-best .500 in the series against Saint Mary's (7-for-14) and boosted his batting average to .308.

Gonzaga's eight game winning streak is the clubs longest since 2012 when it opened the season 10-0.
