LEWISTON, Idaho - This weekend in Lewiston, 68 years after his service to our country in World War II, a Lewiston man finally got the recognition he deserved.

Dwight Staley served in the US Army during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. Though, despite being involved in many conflicts during the war, Dwight never received any of his medals.

But Saturday morning at the Lewiston American Legion, he was finally awarded his recognition after his son-in-law, Dave Morgan, organized the award ceremony for him.

Dwight finally received 2 World War II Bronze Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Good Conduct medal, a World War II Victory medal, and an Asian Pacific medal.

When Dwight's son-in-law found out he had never received a single medal, he was shocked. So he began looking into why Dwight never got his awards and he found it was because the building housing all of those records in St. Louis burned down, so the Army didn't even have a record of Dwight's service.

After a grueling eight months of trying to straighten the whole thing out, Dwight finally got them on Saturday.

However, being the humble hero that he is, Dwight didn't even think he deserved a medal.
He told us, he was excited to see everyone who came out to honor him, and was humbled by the recognition.

We'd just like to say to Dwight, thank you for your service and congratulations on the long-overdue honors.
