CoiNuts Business Sued By Attorney General

Posted: Updated:

COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - CoiNuts, a business in Coeur d'Alene, has officially gone out of business, but for the owners, the trouble has just begun. The Attorney General's office has filed a $750,000 dollar lawsuit against owners Kevin and Brenda Mitchell and this isn't the first time they've been in trouble with the law.

Many of their customers have been trying to get their money back for months, saying they were scammed by the business. The Mitchell's are accused of swindling thousands of dollars from their customers.

At this point, no criminal charges have been filed, but the Coeur d'Alene police are working on the case with Kootenai County prosecutors. The lawsuit, which was filled Thursday, alleges multiple and repeated violations of the Idaho Consumer Protection Act. The Mitchell's 30-year-old stepdaughter, who worked at CoiNuts, was also named as a defendant.

According to records from Kootenai County, the Mitchell home in Hayden Lake has a notice of default with almost $900,000 dollars owed. The investigation doesn't stop with just the Kootenai County and Coeur d'Alene Police, the IRS is also investigating CoiNuts and Kevin Mitchell.
