NEW DETAILS: 5 Dead In Shooting South Of Seattle

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) - Police say a man killed his live-in girlfriend at an apartment complex south of Seattle then fatally shot three men, including one who had phoned 911 to report hearing gunfire.
    
Arriving officers found a chaotic scene in Federal Way on Sunday night. Authorities say officers twice shot at the suspect in a stairway and in a parking lot.  The 28-year-old suspect also died at the scene.
    
Federal Way Police Chief Brian Wilson says authorities first received reports of suspicious circumstances about 9:35 p.m. Sunday.
    
He says the investigation is ongoing, and the names of the suspect and victims haven't yet been released.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) - Police remain at an apartment complex in Federal Way, where five people were shot to death, including a suspect who was shot by arriving officers.
    
Officers responding to an emergency call at 9:30 p.m. Sunday encountered a chaotic scene, with bullets flying.
    
Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said officers found two injured men on the ground in a parking lot. One of the men reached for a gun as police moved in to assist the two, and police opened fire.
    
Schrock said a total of eight officers fired their weapons. All have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
    
The other man on the ground and a third man in the parking lot were found dead.
    
In a search of the complex, police found a fourth man dead in one apartment and a slain woman in another unit.

There was no immediate word what set off the gunfire.

(AP) - Authorities say a Northern California firefighter was mauled in the face by a pit bull after helping extinguish a house fire.    The East Bay Times reports Alameda County Fire Battalion Chief John Whiting received "extremely severe facial damage" in the attack Saturday in San Leandro.    Division Chief Alan Evans says Whiting required extensive reconstructive surgery.

    ITHACA, N.Y. - Firefighters in upstate New York helped out a presumably hungry raccoon that got its head stuck inside a mayonnaise jar.    The Ithaca Fire Department says the raccoon was spotted in a tree during its recent predicament. The Ithaca Journal reports both city firefighters and a state Department of Environmental Conservation officer got the animal down.
