MURPHY, Idaho (AP) - A 29-year-old Homedale woman has pleaded guilty to her role in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, whose remains were found in a burn barrel last August.
Veronica Herrera was initially charged with first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She also pleaded guilty to failure to report a death, destruction of evidence and three counts of injury to a child.
Owyhee County Prosecutor Doug Emery says two of the injury charges relate to Herrera having other children help her burn the body of the 2-year-old.
Court records say Herrera told investigators she burned her daughter's body after she died of an injury because she was scared of losing custody of her other children.
Sentencing is set for July.
