Libraries in Tri-Cities and Yakima Celebrating Kid's Day This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - Moms and dads are not the only ones that have a holiday in their honor. This weekend, libraries in the Tri-Cities and Yakima will be celebrating kid's day.

Right before Mother's Day comes a celebration that originated in Latin America. Is is called El Día de Los Niños or Kid's Day.

El Día de Los Siños has been adopted in the United States as El Día de Los Niños y Libros which translates to children and books day. The celebration is a national initiative by libraries to emphasize the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

"Books is kind of one of those easy ways that makes a huge difference in a kids life, just getting them ready to get into kindergarten, they're learning vocabulary, new words, sentence structure plus all the things that come with imagination and story creation and going into new adventures every time you get into a book," said Candelaria Mendoza with the Mid-Columbia Library.

The Yakima area and Mid-Columbia Libraries will celebrate El Día de Los Niños on Saturday, April 27th from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information visit a branch near you or visit their websites here and here.
