BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - Investigators say a woman suffocated to death after falling into a large Butte trash bin.
The medical examiner for the Montana Crime Lab in Missoula determined the 49-year-old Butte woman's death was accidental and caused by positional asphyxiation.
The autopsy says she landed in an awkward position and was unable to breathe.
The woman's name has not been released.
Sheriff Ed Lester says the woman regularly sifted through trash bins in search of items. She was apparently checking inside an 8-foot trash bin behind a thrift store when she fell in either Saturday night or early Sunday.
She landed nearly upside down and was pinned to the bin's wall by heavy items.
Lester told the Montana Standard Monday (http://bit.ly/12KALlT) the bin contained suitcases, bed frames and other heavy objects.
