LEWISTON, Idaho – Dan Scheibe threw nearly eight innings of one-hit baseball and Whitworth took advantage of seven Pacific Lutheran errors in a 6-0 victory over the Lutes on Saturday afternoon at the Inland Cellular Tournament hosted by Lewis-Clark State College.

The Pirates improved to 14-23-1 while the Lutes dropped to 22-17 after falling 7-3 to fellow NWC-member Linfield earlier on Saturday.

Scheibe improved to 5-3 this season after he gave up only a third inning single.  He struck out seven PLU batters and walked three.  Taylor Isadore got out the final out in the eighth inning and Jason Renner pitched the ninth.

Gerhard Muelheims went 3-5 and scored a pair of runs for the Pirates.  Marlowe Peter added a pinch-hit two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to help put the game out of reach.

Whitworth got on the board with two unearned runs in the third inning.  Josh Davis scored on a fielding error by the left fielder and Muelheims scored after Danny Jordan reached on a PLU throwing error.

Blake Thoren added another unearned run in the fourth without the benefit of a hit.  He reached on an error, moved up on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Erik Nikssarian's sacrifice fly.

Muelheims turned a two-out walk into another unearned run in the seventh.  A pick off attempt got by the first baseman and Muelheims hustled all the way around to score to give the Bucs a 4-0 lead.

Jordan led off the eighth with a double and Thoren followed with a one-out walk.  Peter then drove a ball to right-center for his pinch-hit double and a 6-0 Whitworth lead.

The Pirates will finish off the 2013 season with two more games at LCSC on Sunday, first taking on #1-ranked Linfield College and then facing the host Warriors in the tournament finale.
