Fever Owners Make Big Donation for Berry Family Autism Dog

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Last month NBC Right Now shared the story of the Berry family. They're on a journey to raise $13,000 dollars so their son Tristen can get an autism service dog... Shaun Sheddy has an update on the Fever family's progress.

Saturday the Tri-Cities Fever beat the Cedar Rapids Titans 70-68, but it was a moment in between the action that caught everyone's attention. The Tri-Cities Fever owners Teri and JR Carr presented a check of $7000 to the Berry family.

"My husband JR and I we just talking and it just felt like something we had to do. Whatever we couldn't raise and wasn't raised and donated, that we wanted to make up the difference," said an emotional Teri Carr.

The is ED's second season with the Fever and the community has been nothing but supportive during his time here.

"The year he was away from us, because we didn't move until this year, we heard about this community non-stop, about how great it was and these people...we kinda felt a connection," said Amala Berry, Tristen's mom.

Tristen, what kind of dog do want? "A white dog."

The Berry's may still have to wait up to eleven months before they get their dog, and then come the second round of fund raising.

"We have to go from Kennewick all the way to Xenia, Ohio. So phase 2 of fundraising is going to be to provide the transportation," said Amala Berry. "Plane tickets, rental car, and the hotel for those two weeks. Then we come home with a fully accredited autism service dog."
