Doctors Call Teaching Again "Impossible" But Family Remains Hopeful For Steady Progress:

SPOKANE, Wash. - It's been a long road to recovery for WSU professor Dr. David Warner. Police say he was assaulted on March 30th near the WSU campus. Since  then he's lived a life in the hospital and in various rehab facilities in Spokane and North Idaho.

Chelley Hogge Dr. David Warner's sister tells KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus that "Medical professionals have documented that the extent of his injury will make it impossible for him to ever return to teaching. I have seen the Indomitable human spirit prove medical experts wrong in the past."

Dr. Warner was recently moved from a Post Falls Idaho rehab center to St. Luke's in Spokane. Family members say he is able to mostly sit up for lengths of time and eat on his own again. Family members say at first it was believed David would be paralyzed on his right side.  Although his right side remains very weak, family members say he will  not be paralyzed.

Family says Dr. Warner "can not verbally express himself in more that two words" which they say is frustrating for  David. "He is very optimistic & cheerful." Chelley Hogge tells KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus. David continues to make positive progress on his way to recovery according to the family.
