PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE VALLEY POLICE DEPT: On Wednesday night, May 15, 2013, at 11:45 p.m., Spokane
Valley Sheriff Deputies responded to a single vehicle crash in the intersection
of Sprague and Fancher.
When deputies arrived on scene, they located a 4-door
sedan that had crashed head-on against a power pole on the northeast corner of
the intersection. Deputies tended to the driver and passenger of the vehicle. The driver was not responsive, the passenger was alert and conscious, however
complaining of chest pains. Medics arrived on scene a short time later and
performed life saving measures on the 50-year-old male driver. He was
pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Sheriff's Office Collision Investigators responded to the
scene and determined the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Sprague prior
to hitting the power pole head-on. The 50-year-old driver had not been wearing
his seatbelt, which was a contributing factor to his death.
passenger was wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries. Investigators
determined excessive speed was not the causing factor, but it appears alcohol
and/or drugs were contributing factors.
The investigation is on-going and the
Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the driver
at a later time.
