UPDATE: Spokane Ricin Suspect Appears In Court

SPOKANE, Wash. - Matthew Ryan Buquet, the man arrested for sending ricin letters to a federal judge and the postal union, appeared in court on Tuesday for a bail hearing. The hearing did not last more than five minutes as Buquet waived his right to discuss the possibility of release on bail. He will remain in federal custody and it is not expected that there will be any updates for at least a couple of weeks as the Government and the defense team need to sit down and discuss the evidence that is available.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A 37-year-old who has been charged with threatening to kill a federal judge in a case that involves letters containing the poison ricin is a registered sex offender who lives in a rundown apartment building near downtown Spokane.
    
Matthew Ryan Buquet is originally from Bogota, Colombia.
    
He remains in jail after appearing in federal court Wednesday and pleading not guilty to a charge of mailing a threatening communication.
    
He is a registered sex offender from a 1998 conviction for taking indecent liberties with a 10-year-old girl. He most recently worked as a janitor at ABM Janitorial Services in Spokane.
