Pullman Police: Door-To Door Magazine Solicitor Fraud

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PULLMAN POLICE DEPT: – Pullman residents should beware of door-to-door magazine solicitors who may attempt to defraud potential customers.

On Saturday, May 25, Pullman Police received three reports of magazine solicitors who are illegally soliciting in Pullman. Between 1:50 pm and 6:30 pm, magazine solicitors were reported in the 1600 block of SE Bleasner Dr. and 500 block of Quail Ridge Dr.

The solicitors have been described as college aged males and are representatives from "Blue Diamond Subscriptions". The business and solicitors do not possess an itinerant vendor permit from Pullman, which is required to conduct door-to-door solicitations.

This business has an ‘F' grade from the Better Business Bureau and is the same group who attempted to defraud an elderly Pullman resident in March of 2012. In addition to illegally soliciting for magazine subscriptions, solicitors are also using a ruse of accepting "charitable donations" to purchase books for underprivileged children. The company has not provided any proof that "contributions" actually benefit any charity or underprivileged children. Residents report that the solicitors also ask to come inside their home.

We recommend that you do not let solicitors inside your home, do not discuss any personal issues, and demand to see a City of Pullman Itinerant Vendor Permit. If they cannot provide a permit, or they tell you that their "supervisor" has the permit, do not do business with them and call the Pullman Police Department immediately. The Pullman Police Department has not issued permits to any door-to-door magazine solicitors
