NBCRightNow.com - While there is still a long way to go for immigration reform in the U.S., it is still moving forward in Congress.
Last week the senators known as the gang of eight voted of 13 to 5, to pass Senate Bill 744, out of the committee and on to the senate floor for a full vote in the coming days.
The bill would allow undocumented immigrants to become citizens after a lengthy process and after border security improvements, along with strengthened enforcement and changes to the way visas are issued.
"Produce, vegetables, fruit, a lot of the meat products and dairy products are handled by migrant workers and they're immigrants, if they all left Washington state today, guess what would happen? We'd go hungry," said Charles Sargent with SEIU Local 775.
It would also require employers to check job applicants through the government's online e-verify system to ensure they are authorized to work in the U.S.
