NBCNEWS.COM - Southern California's wildfire season has flared up again, this time chasing 4,000 residents and campers out of the mountains of Santa Barbara County.

The U.S. Forest Service said the so-called White fire broke out near a campsite Monday afternoon in the Los Padres National Forest about 15 miles north of Santa Barbara and spread quickly, fanned by 20 mph winds.

The fire grew to 1,200 acres along the San Ynez River overnight and led to the evacuations of about 4,000 people in campgrounds and year-round and summer homes, Forest Service spokesman Andrew Madsen said.

The fire remains just 10 percent contained.

Strong winds both helped and hindered firefighters Monday, pushing the fire east through forest and away from structures but forcing the grounding of six air tankers.

The Forest Service said as many as 100 structures could be imperiled with small wind shifts to the north and said there is "extreme" potential for the fire to grow.

The Forest Service said it hoped to have the tankers in the air and some 700 personnel fighting the blaze Tuesday.

Verizon tweaks prices, cuts video quality on unlimited plans

    Tuesday, August 22 2017 11:59 AM EDT2017-08-22 15:59:40 GMT

NEW YORK - Verizon is raising the price of its unlimited plan while introducing a slightly cheaper, more limited version as wireless carriers battle each other for customers. All major carriers now offer unlimited plans after years of steering people toward paying extra for using more data. Verizon, like its rivals, will start charging more for higher-quality video while hoping to attract cost-conscious customers with a cheaper plan.

Dad creates new app that makes it impossible to ignore texts

    Tuesday, August 22 2017 6:20 PM EDT2017-08-22 22:20:56 GMT

A father who was fed up with his kids ignoring his texts created a new app that makes it impossible for them to do that anymore. The ReplyASAP app takes over the recipient's phone's screen and makes noise until the message is read, even if the phone is on silent. You'll then get a notification once the person reads the text.
