WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (AP) - A sandstorm in Northern Nevada caused a 26-vehicle pileup that killed one person and seriously injured two others.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Stewart says others had minor injuries in the crash that happened about 6 p.m. Monday on Interstate 80 about 160 miles northeast of Reno.
Images from the scene showed crunched-up vehicles, at least one overturned SUV and damaged semitrailers with their loads spilling onto the road.
Traffic was diverted through Winnemucca while officials cleaned up the scene.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the injured were being treated at a Winnemucca hospital.
