Indians Go Deep In Derby

Updated:

Wednesday was all about the fans at Avista Stadium, as the Spokane Indians made it a fun day at the park in preparation for their season opener on Friday.

The highlight of the night was the home run derby that Cam Schiller, Hirotoshi Onaka and Brandon Garcia participated in. There was also an autograph session and player introductions.

The players were challenged to introduce themselves creatively and two Indians stepped up to the plate. Pitcher Justin Sprenger showed off his juggling skills, while Will Ireton rapped in Japanese.

In the home run derby, Onaka was eliminated with two first-round home runs. Garcia (five home runs) and Schiller (three) moved on to the final round. Both players hit two dingers in the title round and the overtime round was won by Garcia.

The Indians celebrated the derby by dousing Garcia with water.

Catch the season opener on SWX (Comcast channel 115) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
