Idaho Brush Fire Underscores Dry Conditions

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Fire prediction specialists at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise have already predicted a busy 2013 fire season.

A brush fire southwest of the capital Monday underscored the potential danger.

The blaze was reported on State Highway 16 near the Ada and Gem county line.

KTVB-TV (http://tinyurl.com/mkeytse ) reported fire departments from Eagle and Star were tackling the blaze, with help from the Boise district of the Bureau of Land Management.

A spokeswoman with the federal agency says it's providing four engines, a helicopter and a bulldozer in a bid to knock down the small blaze estimated at just about 15 acres.

Emergency crews temporarily diverted some traffic on the busy state highway.

Earlier this year, NIFC said 2013 would likely bring busier-than-average fire activity across much of the West.
