Saunders On Wrong End Of Pitchers' Duel

The Los Angeles Angels topped the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Or, more accurately, Mike Trout beat the Mariners.

The Angels outfielder provided the only run in a pitchers duel in the sixth. Trout led off the inning with a double and moved to third on an Albert Pujols lineout to right. He scampered home one batter later on a wild pitch by Mariners starter Joe Saunders.

Saunders pitched eight stellar innings of six-hit ball, allowing just the one run and striking out three. The left-hander falls to 5-7 on the season, but lowered his ERA to 4.48.

C.J. Wilson (6-5) held the Mariners scoreless for seven innings, only allowing baserunners on singles by Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales and a pair of walks. Scott Downs pitched a perfect eighth and Ernesto Frieri threw a clean ninth for his 16th save.

Peter Bourjos was the only player to collect multiple hits in the game, as the speedy Angels center fielder had a single and double.
