MORE WEATHER DETAILS:

SEATTLE (AP) - Forecasters say temperatures will climb through a dry, sunny weekend in Washington and could hit record highs early next week.

The National Weather Service forecasts highs in the 70s and 80s this weekend and 80s and 90s Monday and Tuesday in Western Washington.

Eastern Washington will be hotter with weekend highs in the 80s and 90s. The temperatures on Monday and Tuesday could break 100 east of the Cascades.

Temperatures may then ease a bit, but the hot dry weather is expected to extend through the Fourth of July.

Authorities are advising people to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses and not to leave children or pets in cars.

Emergency responders say people also should be careful on lakes, rivers and beaches if they try to cool off in the water.
