SPOKANE, Wash. -

UPDATE: SPOKANE, Wash. - Crews worked through the night Friday to control and monitor the three alarm fire that destroyed the Mayfair Professional building Friday evening.

At this point, the cause of the fire is still under investigation and with the extensive damage that was done, it could take crews several days to find an answer for why this fire started. Saturday, the once two-story building was completely leveled.

"Actually, the building collapsed in the middle of the night and up until about a half an hour ago. there were still visible flames inside the building," said Bob Covington, a member of the clean up crew, ServiceMaster By Covington, early Saturday morning.

It was a long night for crews as they worked to contain spot fires and monitor the building. The flames got so large that firefighters had to evacuate at one point during the blaze. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and another for back injuries. Both have been released and are recovering at home.

The building housed two dental practices and a physical rehabilitation clinic. However, since the businesses were already closed at the time of the fire, there were only two doctors inside.

It was one of the dentists who smelled the smoke and call 911, but there is still no indication of how the fire started.

The building and everything inside is a complete loss, so the dentists will have to set up a temporary office or refer patients to other clinics. However, crews on scene said the doctors had just backed up their patient information a couple of days ago, so no records were lost in the fire.

The estimated cost of the damage is close to a million dollars. However, it was not the only one that was damaged. Clean up crews were also working in some of the surrounding buildings Saturday. A few of those now have water damage from trying to control the three alarm fire.

Previous Coverage:

The Mayfair Professional building in North Spokane was engulfed in flames on Friday. The building located at 5901 North Mayfair housed two dental practices and an outpatient therapy practice. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. When firefighters arrived all they could see was black smoke billowing out of the basement but soon the smoke snaked its way up from the basement to all throughout the building. The smoke made its way to the upper floors and was quickly followed by flames. Of the 18 firefighting units that Spokane has 14 were at this fire. No cause is known at this time but the fire has been contained.

A Spokane business owner says enough is enough after finding human feces in front of her doorstep three days in a row. The incidences happened at Neat Old Stuff located at 3rd and Bernard. The shop's owner, CP Phare, has been in the same location for the last decade and says suspicious activity has ramped up in the last year, but nothing like what's been happening over the last few days. "There's like surprise packages usually two-to-three times a week,"
