A Pair Of Mariners, Former Indians Selected To All-Star Game

Posted: Updated:

Former Spokane Indians Carlos Beltron and Chris Davis were both selected as starters for the MLB All-Star game on Tuesday, July 16. Mariners pitchers Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma were both selected, as well.

Davis, a first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, was the top vote-getter with 8,272,243. Davis is having a breakout season and leads the Majors with 33 home runs. He's second in average (.324) and runs batted in (85).

Beltron, who plays right field for the St. Louis Cardinals, will be appearing in his eighth All-Star Game.

It is Felix Hernandez's fourth All-Star Game selection. The Mariners' ace is 8-4 with a 2.69 ERA (second best in the AL). It is Iwakuma's first selection in just his second MLB season. Iwakuma was a three-time All-Star in Japan. The right-hander is 7-4 with a league best 2.60 ERA

In their respective games today Carlos Beltron had an RBI in a 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins and Chris Davis had one home run in a 4-5 loss to the New York Yankees.

It was also a good day at the plate for former Spokane Indian Taylor Teagarden, who had an RBI in a 5-4 loss to the New York Yankees.
