Iwakuma Falters As Mariners Lose Slugfest

Updated:

All-Star Hisashi Iwakuma couldn't hold an early lead and the Seattle Mariners lost 11-8 to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday at Safeco Field.

The The Mariners led 5-1 heading into the third inning, but the Red Sox put up a five-spot in the frame to take a 6-5 advantage. Kendrys Morales tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot -- his second home run of the game -- and then a Michael Saunder RBI triple gave the Mariners a 7-6 lead. Iwakuma couldn't hold off Boston, though.

Iwakuma saw his league leading ERA climb to 2.97 after allowing six runs on eight hits in three innings.
