SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle police say an officer fatally shot a mixed breed dog after it bit a house painter and charged at an officer.
Kim Pace tells The Seattle Times that the 4-year-old dog named Aries was one of four that escaped Tuesday from the house she shares with the dog's owner.
Police say the dogs later surrounded a Seattle Fire Department truck and "charged" medics who tried to reach the bite victim to treat him.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt says officers used a fire extinguisher on the dogs.
Pace says she believes the shooting was unnecessary. She says Aries had been certified to visit nursing homes as a pet therapy animal.
Animal control officers took custody of the other three dogs pending further investigation.
