The Boston Red Sox put on an offensive show for the second straight day to beat the Seattle Mariners 11-4 on Wednesday at Safeco Field.
David Ortiz was the centerpiece for the Red Sox, as his second inning double gave him the most hits (1,689) all-time by a designated hitter. Ortiz added to that total with a home run in the third inning.
Mariners starter Aaron Harang allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings and fell to 4-8 on the season with a 5.38 ERA.
Brendan Ryan hit a solo homer off Brandon Workman as part of a two-run eighth, but it was too little, too late for Seattle, who was stymied for most of the night by Boston starter Felix Doubront.
