FIRST ON KHQ.COM: Arrest Made In Othello Double Homicide; Two Men Found Shot To Death In Orchard

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On July 10, 2013 at about 0300 Adams County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1700 Block of West Bench Road. In an orchard to the south, deputies found two subjects deceased from what appears to be gunshot wounds.

Deputies have identified both victims.

#1 Juan Luis Rizo-Torres  39-year-old male from Othello.

#2 Ruben Gonzalez-Navarrete 29-year-old male from Othello.

The Columbia Basin Investigation Team (CBIT), which is a multi-agency response team, is assisting the Adams County Sheriff's Office with the investigation. 

The Washington State Patrol Crime Lab is assisting with the crime scene.

It is believed the incident took place yesterday July 9, 2013, between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The incident is in the early stages of the investigation and more information will be provided at a later time.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office has arrested Francisco A. Rizo, 31-year-old male, who resides in Connell, Wa. The arrest was made, without incident, in Connell with the assistance of the Connell Police Department.

The original incident was a verbal and physical confrontation between the victims and another orchard worker. The suspect Rizo found out about the altercation and went to the orchard. Rizo confronted the two victims and shot both with a small caliber handgun. The Adams County Sheriff's Office has not recovered the handgun.

Rizo fled the scene after the incident. The Chevrolet Suburban that Rizo was driving was also located in Connell and is in the custody of the Adams County Sheriff's Office.

Rizo was booked into the Adams County Jail and will be charged with two (2) counts of Murder in the First Degree.

An autopsy will be conducted on the two victims July 12, 2013 in Moses Lake, Wa.
