Tactical Team In Grant County Uses Tear Gas To Arrest Barricaded Domestic Violence Suspect

Posted: Updated:

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: The Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team safely took a domestic violence suspect into custody Friday afternoon after he barricaded himself in a home west of George.

Dan Mead, 56, allegedly assaulted his mother at her home in Sunland Estates then fled to his girlfriend's home in the 4900 block of Road U Southwest. Mead slammed the door on responding deputies and refused to comply with their orders. There was concern Mead had access to firearms in the home, and deputies called the TRT.

After three hours, Mead failed to surrender at the request of a sheriff's negotiator, and TRT launched tear gas into the home. Mead finally surrendered about ten minutes later and was taken into custody.

Mead is lodged in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), obstructing officers, resisting arrest and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

"It was a long, hot Friday for all local and regional law enforcement officers," said Sheriff Tom Jones. "I'm happy this suspect was able to be arrested safely, and I appreciate the TRT members for their excellent work on this call."
