From Tri-City Dust Devils
The Tri-City Dust Devils won their lone home day game of the season Monday afternoon, defeating the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 2-1 at Gesa Stadium. Neither team's offense could muster much production, but two third inning runs were enough to bring the Dust Devils back to the .500 mark for the first time since June 21st.
Dust Devils (19-19) starting pitcher Tyler Anderson (1-0) earned his first win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing one unearned run. Anderson, the first-round draft pick by the Colorado Rockies in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, looked impressive in his first rehab start after joining the team on Sunday, striking out four and allowing one hit. Relievers Jason Vargas and Jerad McCrummen combined to work the sixth through eighth innings without allowing a run. Then, closer Trent Daniel (Sv, 8) came in for the ninth and earned his Northwest League leading eighth save of the season.
Tri-City scored the entirety of their runs in the third inning when catcher Chris O'Dowd and third baseman Michael Benjamin had back-to-back two-out run-scoring singles to give the Dust Devils a 2-0 lead. Designated hitter Wilfredo Rodriguez also tallied a hit, going 1-for-3 in the game. Since Rodriguez recorded a hit, everyone can head to papajohns/com and type in promo code "dustdevils" where you can buy any pizza and receive a second pizza of equal or lesser value for free. This promo code is valid tomorrow only, Tuesday, July 23rd, at all Tri-City locations.
Salem-Keizer (23-15) starting pitcher Chase Johnson (1-1) took the loss for the Volcanoes, allowing two runs, neither earned, on four hits over five innings.
The Dust Devils embark on an eight-game road trip beginning Tuesday night in Everett with a three-game set against the AquaSox to begin the Northwest League second half of the season. The three games in Everett are followed by a five-game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes before Tri-City returns to Gesa Stadium on July 31st to take on the Eugene Emeralds for five games.
