Yakima native happy to stay local as CWU top assistant coach

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Central Washington University basketball's new top assistant is Drew Harris. SWX caught up with him outside his former high school, Eisenhower. Harris helped coach at both his alma maters -- CWU and Ike -- before taking this new position. He helped the 2010-2011 Wildcats to the GNAC tournament title and regular season title. Before that Harris remembers his success in Yakima.

"The 4th place trophies we won two times while I was playing was fun times. Going to state and winning those trophies. All my teammates and I stay in contact a lot. So there's good memories. I'm really excited. Any time you can go back and coach at a school you played for makes everything a lot easier as far as my transition to coaching. It's close to Yakima where I'm from. So I'm excited to be close to home. And I love the city of Ellensburg. It's been great," Harris said.
