AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - Firefighters are mopping up a brush fire that burned just north of Airway Heights in the Coulee Hite area Monday.

Currently the fire is about 50 acres, but containment is at about 50% and crews said they don't expect it to get much bigger.

Neighbors say they spotted smoke just before 3:00pm Monday afternoon.

Fire Districts #3, #5, #9, and #10 responded along with the Department of Natural Resources.

Hand crews along with bulldozers were able to get a line dug around the fire.

There were also 2 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft dropping water.

The fire burned sage brush and ponderosa pine trees and was fueled by high winds.

The cause at this time is unknown.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.
