Red Sox Trounce Mariners At Fenway

Updated:

Seattle started its East Coast swing off on the wrong foot, as the Boston Red Sox coasted to an 8-2 win over the Mariners on Tuesday at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox put five runs on the board in the first two innings to jump out to an early lead. Seattle starter Joe Saunders managed to right the ship and make it through five innings, but he left the game having allowed six runs on nine hits.

Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury both hit home runs off of Saunders, while Jarrod Saltalamacchia added a two-run run homer in the eighth off reliever Brandon Maurer.

Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales both collected two hits for the Mariners. Morales' first-inning single scored Nick Franklin and accounted for Seattle's only run until Henry Blanco singled home Justin Smoak in the ninth.

The Mariners struck out a combined 12 times, while drawing just one walk.
