Gonzalez's Gem Wasted In Indians Loss

Updated:

Despite a 10-hit night, the Spokane Indians fell short in a 5-3 loss to the Boise Hawks on Tuesday.

Gabe Roa had four hits, including a double, and recently promoted Eduard Pinto contributed three singles for the Indians.

Spokane took the lead in the third on a run-scoring double by Roa. Marcus Greene contributed an RBI single in the inning. The Indians added to the lead on an RBI single in the sixth by Joe Jackson.

The Hawks answered in the bottom of the frame with five runs. John Straka was stuck with the loss, as he allowed all five runs on just five hits in 1 1/3 innings.

First-round pick Alex Gonzalez went four scoreless innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out four. It is the second straight outing for Gonzalez without giving up a run after a poor string of starts for the right-hander to begin his professional career.
