Boy Who Fell 150 Feet On Mount Hood Recovering

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A 10-year-old boy who is recovering from three skull fractures after tumbling 150 feet down a steep, rock-strewn hill on Oregon's Mount Hood is talking about his ordeal.

Sitting on his father's lap Wednesday at a Portland hospital, Cole Hancock said softly, "I'm Cole and I'm alive. I can't believe I'm alive."

The Oregonian says (http://is.gd/KSYyZo ) the boy is still regaining his ability to speak. His father, Kim Hancock of Vancouver, Wash., describes Cole's recovery after just a week as "phenomenal."

Doctors did worry about Cole's speech but Kim Hancock says speech therapists now report he's doing great. Hancock says he expects his son to go back to school this fall.

The boy and his father had been hiking July 23 above the White River parking lot. He was flown to a hospital by helicopter.

PULLMAN, Wash. - It's a moment that proudly lives in WSU football history.  September 28, 2013.  WSU is losing to Stanford. The score isn't important, but let's just say it was a lot. Ok, fine. It was 41-3 early in the 4th quarter.
